Medicinal Plants of LesothoPlant species of interest : Bulbine capitata , Commelina africana , Gunnera perpensa , Helichrysum latifolium Thunb. Less. , Hypoxis rooperi Moore , Kniphofia ritualis Codd. , Scabiosa columbaria L. . These species were selected because they are part of the natural products used widely in traditional medicine practice in Lesotho.
Research activities:
1. Soxhlet extraction;
Size exclusion gel filteration chromatography;
Normal phase silica gel and/or reversed phase gravity column chromatography;
HPLC normal phase silica gel or reversed phase
2. Biological assay of the extracts
3. Structure elucidation using a combination of NMR, UV, IR & MS
