Department of Chemistry & Biomolecular Sciences

Undergraduate Study in Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences

Scholarships and Prizes

There are several Scholarships and Prizes that are given out on merit to students studying chemistry.

Degree Programs

There are several degree programs in which chemistry can be studied.

  • As a major study within the Bachelor of Science (BSc), chemistry is usually combined with other subjects such as biology, computing, physics, electronics, geology, mathematics and computing, statistics and psychology.

  • Chemistry can be studied at an advanced level in the Bachelor of Science in Advanced Chemistry.

  • The Bachelor of Science in Molecular Technologies is a new degree for 2003 and is more applied and specialised. It has been developed in collaboration with industry.

  • Chemistry is also studied as part of the Bachelor of Medical Sciences, Bachelor of Marine Science and Bachelor of Environmental Sciences.

For details concerning unit prerequisites and programs of study in chemistry please refer to the Handbook of Undergraduate Study

Doing Honours - It's only 1 more year!

The demands of the modern workplace mean that most candidates should seriously consider the benefits of an Honours program. This additional year of intensely practical experience provides a challenging and enriching amplification of the skills and knowledge acquired in earlier years.

The degrees available are:-

  • Honours Degree of Bachelor of Science - BSc(Hons)
  • Honours Degree of Bachelor of Science (Molecular Technologies) - BSc(MolTech) Hons
  • Honours Degree of Bachelor of Medical Sciences - BMedScs(Hons)
