MUCAB Mass Spectrometry Facility
Macquarie University's Centre for Analytical Biotechnology (MUCAB) Mass Spectrometry Facility currently has 4
instruments, consisting of a MALDI-TOF, one LC-MS/MS system, one LC/GC-MS/MS system and one LC-MS system.
The facility is currently managed by Dr Carsten Hojsev. A more detailed description of the instrument capabilities
are given below:
- Micromass MALDI-TOF (Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization - Time Of Flight) mass spectrometer capable of
analyzing polymers and bio-molecules up to 500,000 Daltons.
- Micromass Quattro II Triple Quadrupole is capable of ESI (Electrospray Ionization) and APcI (Atmospheric Chemical Ionization)
when operating with LC (Liquid Chromatography) sources as well as EI (Electron Ionisation) and CI (Chemical Ionisation) for GC (Gas Chromatography)
and Probe sources. The Quattro II, being a triple quadrupole mass analyzer is also capable of MS/MS (Tandem Mass Spectrometry) experiments and has
a mass range up to 4000 Daltons.
- Micromass Q-TOF (Quadrupole/Time of Flight) tandem mass spectrometer
- Shimadzu LCMS-2010
The Shimadzu LCMS-2010 is available for self use by graduate students and post-docs after training by MS Facility staff. Bookings to
use the LCMS-2010 must be made on-line via the Department's Instrument Booking Facility
