Research Facilities
The Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences is supported by a number of facilities providing services or resources for use by members of the department, as well as other departments and commercial users. The range of facilities available is extensive. Access to the instruments is managed through the Department's Instrument Booking FacilityNMR Facility - comprising a Bruker DRX-600MHz NMR spectrometer and a Bruker DPX-400MHz NMR spectrometer.
Mass Spectrometry Facility - comprising a Shimadzu LCMS-2010 Quadrupole mass spectrometer with ESI and APCI capability [Book time], and a Shimadzu QP5000/GC-17A GC/MS.
Molecular Visualisation Facility - comprising several SGI workstations and 3D visualisation equipment.
Macquarie University Centre for Analytical Biotechnology - comprising an extensive array of biomolecular research equipment hosted by the Department of Chemistry. HPLC, BiaCore, FPLC, AKTA, BioCAD, SMART, CD/Fluorescence, Mass spec., culture facilities etc.
High Performance Computing Support - Shared super-computing facility comprising SGI Origin 2400, IBM SP2, NEC SX5, thinking Machines CM5, SGI Power Challenge etc.
Workshop Facility - One-stop shop for all electrical and mechanical services.
Australian Proteome Analysis Facility - 2D Gel Electrophoresis, Mass Spectrometry, N-terminal Sequencing, Amino Acid Analysis, HPLC, Protein Production, Functional Assays, BioInformatics etc.
Stockrooms - Extensive supply of laboratory and office equipment, glassware and chemicals.
Access Macquarie Limited - Research Commercialization arm provides project management, IP, marketing and commercialization services to staff.
Other Facilities - comprising Fourier transform infrared spectrometers, spectropolarimeters, differential scanning calorimeter, thermogravimetric analyser, an ICP-AES, 2 AA's, GC's, HPLC's etc.
